My favorite thing by Dark Horse thus far--that is what I can say about this beer. We've already reviewed quite a few of their brews. Of course, I'm a sucker for Imperial Stouts. At 12%ABV, this beer is a pretty heavy hitter. Being that I shared this with my wife and brother, it wasn't too much at all (especially when it feels like a night to have a couple of beers). There was a very much shared consensus that it was very good. Here is my review of the beer. The Pour-This was a very dark beer, to say the least. A dark brown head was left atop this veiled night sky blackness of a beer. The Nose-Dark grain aromas were prevalent on the nose of this brew. Alcohol could certainly be smelled alongside coffee and some fruity (berryish) qualities. Caramel and chocolate also made a very pleasant impression. Who is a fan of fruit in beer? Not me, generally speaking. I like a good fruit-laden lambic but am usually reluctant to drink a beer with fruit added. Even this is not across the board. To me, it depends on when the fruit is added and if the sugar is well attenuated (thinned down/fermented out). If the fruit is subtle, then I can go with it. But beers like Wild Blue or Leinenkugel's Berry Weisse are more atrocious to me than the outcome of the Manhattan project. However, having become an overnight fan of Dark Horse I thought I'd give them a chance on their Raspberry Ale. The Pour-The beer itself was a nice, golden-orange color with a finely carbonated light head. There was a slight haze to the beer. The Nose-There was certainly some raspberry on the nose of this beer. Yet, it was not the cloying type of over-fruited beer. Actually, it was a pleasant fresh raspberry sourness that came through on the nose. Some wheatyness and grain came through, but there was not a ton beyond that. As promised, I'm reviewing another Dark Horse product. We've already done their One, Too, Tres and Sapient Trip. I figure that we ought to keep things rolling along with their coffee Doppelbock. I've actually begun to really like this brewery, so you're going to keep seeing more. Let me tell you that I also drank this beer right after Leinenkugel's 1888 Bock, so it was nice to have something good afterward. The Pour: Reddish-brown hues made this beer look like a chance for full taste. There was short stable head with a slow and steady body that looking like a percolating pot of the black stuff. The Aromas: Very little but coffee came through on the nose of this beer. In fact, the coffee aromas were more like smelling a filter full of expended grounds (I don't mean for this sound negative because that is not what I'm attempting to do). There were touches of sweet malt, which are normally expected to dominate a Doppelbock. Be that as it may, coffee is a strong flavor. The Taste: The first flavor to hit the mouth was...coffee. This is one of several Dark Horse products that we've reviewed on the site. Specifically, this is the third in a series of Stouts that counts to three.   One and Too are actually on one review and are worth looking at.  Tres is obviously the third in the series. We've also done their Sapient Trip, which is a good version of a Belgian Triple. I'll also be posting about their coffee double bock and raspberry ale. Back to the Blueberry Stout. Like the One and Too, this beer was pretty stinkin' dark. There was a finely carbonated but quickly dissipating head on this beer, which is a little disappointing when you would like a creamy head on a stout. Oh well!  Maybe the beer will pay off. As one might expect, there were Blueberry aromas present in the beer that made the mouth water. Alcohol and dark, roasty grains were a prominent feature on the nose. This is the third beer that I've reviewed from Dark Horse Brewery, and I plan to do a few more (I've already reviewed their One and Too). I'm finding that I like their beer more each time I drink it. This might be my favorite thing by them so far. As the name implies, they are going for a Belgian Triple style Ale here. They actually do a fairly good job on a style that is hard to do well. Here is my review of this beer. When I poured I immediately noted that the beer is perhaps darker than most any Belgian Triple Ale that I've had. Of course, Belgians generally make many of these beers characteristically blond (this is not always true, especially in the field of Trappists, but you get the point). Having said the above, the beer came in at a light copper blond with a finely carbonated and stable head. The beer came off pretty clean looking in the glass. It seems that there are some pretty good brewers in Michigan these days.  Great Lakes and others put out some great stuff.  What about Dark Horse, are they to be counted among these good breweries?  Since I've got two Stouts from this same brewery, I'm going to review them both on this one article.  Luckily, their named One and Too, respectively.   One and Too both had some very very dark bodies and dark brown heads.  They were both certainly Stout in every since of the word.   Both these brews had some very nice burnt grain, chocolate, and coffee notes on the nose.  They both also had some juicy, fruity qualities.  These were the common factors among the two, but now it's time for them to depart. The Oatmeal Stout (One) obviously had some oats on the nose which combined with very roasty qualities. One had a thick mouth-feel, which revealed how chewy this Oatmeal Stout was (I would like even more oats on flavor).  Oats are notoriously hard to mash into a brew because of their gelatinizing qualities, so making even a decent Oatmeal Stout is a challenge.  Along with the oats was a clear chocolate taste to the beer.  I ...
