Glass City Beer Fest In Hindsight

I had a fantastic time at the Glass City Beer festival on Friday.  While the event was small in comparison to traditional beer festivals, there was a decent turnout and variety.  I do wish there would have been more brewery representatives to chat with, but it did its job:  It allowed me to taste more beers than usual in one setting, allowed me to get to know the stories behind a few breweries, fuel my beer enthusiasm, and got me even more geeked up to possibly open a brewery in the near future.

Instead of boring any of our readers with the details of the night, I am posting a list of the beers tasted and the rating I gave them on the scorecard.  I would love to hear about anybody’s recent beer festival adventures.  The pic at the bottom is me and my buddy, Zak, who came with me.  My wife was going to come with me, but we recently discovered she is pregnant with our fifth child, and as many may know, beer and fetus do not mix.

Anyway, here is what I had and the rating I gave it on a scale of one to five:

Siberian Night, Thirsty Dog Brewing:  4

Heidelburg, Sierra Nevada:  3

Bourbon Barrel Stout, Blue Grass Brew Co.: 5 (surprisingly smooth and tasty)

Gonzo, Flying Dog:  4

Hog Heaven, Avery Brewing:  3

90 Minute IPA, Dogfish Head:  4

Matilda, Goose Island:  4  (usually not a Goose Island Fan, but this was great!)

Conway’s Irish Ale, Great Lakes Brew Co.:  4

11th Anniversary Ale (draught), Stone Brewing Co.:  5

Old 21 Imperial IPA, Brew Kettle Production Works: 4

Jolly Pumpkin Barn, Jolly Pumpkin Brewery:4.5

  1. Gonzo Imperial Porter Review | Thank Heaven for Beer Says:

[...] This is my Flying Dog “go to” beer.  It so smooth, it easy to drink quickly.  I have bought it before, and will buy it again…perhaps one of these days I’ll drink it while watching a documentary about Hunter S. Thompson or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.  PS:  I had this on tap at a beer fest last year. [...]
