It may seem silly indeed for a Belgian brewer to make a Scottish style ale.  Yet, you begin to think, “Why not, they make some many other things well?”  What did I think?

When I poured this beer it had a big, billowing head–maybe not typical for many Scottish Ales but very typical for Belgians.  This ale also had a deep, clean, red-orange body.

Searching the aromas of the beer, I immediately noted candy sugars, slight hops, and a metallic note.  There was plenty of ripe fruit to this beer; perhaps some figs were evident.  There was also a sweet malty alcohol aroma to the brew.

The sweet malts and alcohol warmth from the nose were immediately evident in the mouth.  I also got some citrusy hops when I swished the beer.  I would call the body medium with a long finish.  Caramel and nuts were also abundant in the profile of this beer.  As I drank this beer slowly, some very nice lacing developed.

Perhaps this beer was a little lighter and more hopped than a Scottish Ale with the same 8% ABV, but this beer was very nice nonetheless.  If you get the chance, give it a try.
