It’s Friday again, and you know what that means, it’s time to drink with us. This week were going to be drinking Old Foghorn by Anchor brewing company, which is located in San Francisco. One of my first craft beers was their Liberty Ale. Old Foghorn is a Barley Wine Style Ale. We’ve had a couple other beers that represented this style: Brooklyn’s Monster Ale and Thomas Hardy. I expect this version to not be quite as “big” as the other two. It’s hardly wine, but it’s mighty fine.
You can expect a healthy dose of hops and malts in this beer; that’s what a Barleywine does. So, be ready for a robust, beer-expanding experience if you’ve not had a Barleywine. I think that I’m going to review their “small beer” also. More on that later. First, let me tell you a little bit about Anchor.
Anchor essentially experienced a resurrection by Fritz Maytag, a member of the appliance family. He took a dying brewery, and at the time, a dying art and made it one of the great beer success stories. If you like craft brew, you’ve got to pay your respects to Anchor brewing. They were on the forefront of America’s rediscovery of good beer on a commercial level. Not to take credit away from others who were involved, but Anchor was really the big player on the scene for craft brewing. So, I hope your excited to try some of their stuff.
