We are going to try choosing two different beers each week for are Saturday Libation ritual, Sip It With Us Saturday, to encourage participation when some beers are difficult to find. This week we are drinking Pyramid’s, Juggernaut and Samuel Smith’s Imperial Stout.
Pyramid comes via the suggestion of Scott, the brains behind social networking site, Manland. I reference Scott not just because he’s a fellow beer geek, owner of a rad site, and Thank Heaven for Beer reader, but also to make sure everyone knows we do not want to always be left with the responsibility of choosing a Saturday beer. If you see something you want to try, email us (see the contact page).
Anyway, Samuel Smith’s Imperial Stout is actually a Russian Imperial Stout. Russian Imperial stouts are particularly favorite treat of mine, and it never ceases to give me a smile when I see a hesitant new beer drinker give it a sip and find it smooth, rich and enjoyable.
I you are not in the mood to participate with Samuel Smith’s Imperial Stout, then feel give Pyramid’s Juggernaut a gander. Juggernaut is an American Red Ale with an ABV of 5.6%. it is a seasonal beer, released only during August and September, so get your hands on it while you can!
Cheers!
Thanks, guys. I may be able to find both of these beers. Looking forward to it.

Is Samuel Smith’s really “Russian”?
[Reply]
i think it’s Russian only in the broadest sense.
[Reply]
It’s Russian in the sense of the origin of the style: it was brewed in England for Russian Czars.

That’s what I was getting at, Howard…thank you This is certainly a restrained version compared to a lot of others we’ve seen. Nonetheless, It is a “Russian Imperial Stout” and is terrific.

I only ask since I don’t recall it being billed as Russian. Moreover, it has a dramatically different character than say… Old Rasputin. Nevertheless, it’s an excellent example of a subset of the stout.

Agreed, Big Tex. It is very different. You know this, but sometimes you have to be pretty broad with some style definitions,
