Look at this guy

This is for you, Scott from Manland.  It wasn’t more than a year or so ago that I started having quite a bit of interaction with my (now friend) Scott.  He would write me, talk about beer, and ask some advice.  He was kicking around the idea of homebrewing, which I knew would keep getting him into more and more beer.  I have literally watch him blossom in beer knowledge and enthusiasm.  Knowing that I was a part of that makes me really happy.

Think about it: our blog of humble beginnings has had influence over a few people.  In an age of mass media, mass production, really mass culture, personal discussions and friendships of mutual respect via the blog world have helped us to influence, teach, and shape each others outlooks.  So, it is with thanks to all of you, our readers and friends, that I say I’m glad to have you hear and see pictures like this: Scott’s first brew.  Where’s yours?

I always love watching people new to craft beer take up homebrewing. I have had a few friends who go into the hobby becasue of what I was doing. Some have stayed with it while others have stopped and others who do it much more than I ever have.

Thanks, Nate. It’s great to see him brewing. We’ve talked about it several times and it looks as though the initial plunge is done…hope he does some deep sea diving.

Wow! I am humbled that you’ve posted this Mike! Thanks so much for your guidance over the last year. I’ve learned a ton about beer from both you and Nate … couldn’t have done it without you.

And yes, I do plan on doing some “deep sea diving.” Consider me “hooked!”

You are welcome and I’m just happy you are brewing. Also, you shared it with me which is gratifying. I guess you could call it a “feel good story”…that’s something I like. Plus, I like to share what has happened from site interaction and people’s growth.

I’m also glad to hear that you are hooked. Any time you want help or need any advice or even just want to share, you know where to find us.

That beer looks very refreshing and quaffable! And I cannot detect any sediment! This looks like a home run for a first attempt!

That’s a great looking beer! Mine came out OK, but nothing I’d want anyone to blog about! Scott’s got a great site too and has some of the best pictures and videos around! Keep up the positive influence THFB!

@ Both. The beer does look pretty damn good. I’d say that’s a successful first effort and I know that he’s going to be making some good stuff. Scott does have one of the best looking sites, pics, and videos out there.

    Guys:

Thanks again for all of the responses to this great post. Sorry for the late reply … I was on vacation up in Michigan. (And you can bet I sampled a bunch of great beers, including Bell’s, New Glarus, and Goose Island.)

At any rate, looking forward to continuing my brewing adventure. I’m sampling my home brew again after two weeks of bottle conditioning this weekend.

Thanks to you all for the kind words and inspiration! (And thanks to Mike and Nate for one of the best beer sites on the planet!)
