We love beer, we thank heaven. Begrudgingly, we admit we are not the authority on all things "beer," but we know our fair share. Enjoy the good brew with us; correct us where we're wrong.

Mike,

Yeah I agree it's not the beer out there but it's definitely an experience

I was at Lucky Baldwin's at noon but not for the PtY. I was there only to try Supplication on tap. I really dig the Blind Pig and Elder and I think their renown is justified so I just can't see waiting for something that can only be marginally better than those two.

That's just me though. There was one guy at the bar who grabbed a stool as soon as the place opened and had gotten the barkeep to promise him the first glass.

At least that guy knew his beer, there were people there who couldn't have named another Russian River beer for $100 bucks.

I've had IPAs that I would certainly drink before either of the Plinys. I think the first night the nostalgia or wonder is still there while the second it isn't. One thing is for sure, it's not the best beer in the world as some would say.

PTY really confuses the hell out of me. I've had it twice. Once at a tasting and once from a growler of my own. I love this beer. But then when I think about it later on I always say there is just better IPAs. I'm torn dammit!! The bottom line is though, out of every beer I've ever had, this beer falls off the quickest. It's great the first night, then falls off quick

NOT over-hyped (warning, beer is my religion but I am new to the faith) and this triple IPA is notorious as a HOP BOMB. It is hopped 4 or 5 times and the flavor isn't as complex as Abyss or Old Rasputin. . but that isn't what the beer is brewed to do for the taster. I agree that the allure of the beer is that it is seasonal and hard to find-- but it was a gorgeous (and HUGE) beer.
My wife tried it (not a beer lover) and said her tongue is numb :)

I was there and tasted it, Mike...

Probably a little over-hyped but it was a GREAT double... not much flavor other than the hops, which is nice, and a little more smooth than Pliny the Elder.

Wish you'd have been there. I'm not sure how long it was before it ran out but it wasn't long. Probably 45 minutes. It was only a 5 gal. keg, apparently.
