We love beer, we thank heaven. Begrudgingly, we admit we are not the authority on all things "beer," but we know our fair share. Enjoy the good brew with us; correct us where we're wrong.

I looked back in my e-mail archives and found my reviews for this, but it does look like I have a good memory (at least when it comes to good beer)! Almost a year removed from the event, I recall the aprihop, the rauchbier, and the Hophenge the most.

Big Tex,
You deserve a comment award for this one!
Either you have a great memory or took some notes...
I haven't had Hop henge, but I'd love to try. Actually, just like a few guys mentioned in the skull splitter review, reading your list makes me crave some beer.

I wish I could attend the Washington Brewers Festival with you. Too bad it's 3/4 across the US for me.

You guys got me looking forward to Father's Day. I attended a festival last year with one of my brewing buddies. Good times and good beer. Hoping to get another one of my brew buddies to come along this year.

Here are my thoughts from the 2008 festival (from e-mail archive, encouraging the second brew buddy to attend in 2009):

-------------

Alpine had a good Märzen. The guy said the grain bill included pale malt, Munich malt, and 40L & 60L crystal malts. Low hop profile (standard) and clean finish (lager yeast). This was definitely a good beer.

Baron Brewing Co had a good Pilsner and Rauchbier. The pilsner was a good German interpretation of the classic Czech style. The rauchbier was smoky (standard). Not a peat smoke, but smoky like smoked meats and cheeses.

Dogfishhead had some weird stuff (peche berliner weisse & apricot IPA) that seemed rather popular, but just wasn’t that good.

Iron Horse Brewery had some good brews too. Quilter’s Irish Death (imperial sweet stout) and Loco Imperial Red (IPA).

Lazy Boy had a good Belgian Ale. 9.3% ABV :-)

We also tried the Chocolate Dunkel from Northern Lights in Spokane. They said not a lot of chocolate malt (~55 lbs. in a 1700 lb. mash!)

Roslyn Brewing Co had a decent dark German lager. We also enjoyed a steam beer from Snipes Mountain Brewing
Co.

We also hit Widmer and had their W ‘08 Crimson Wheat. Not bad. At least they don’t advertise it as hefe-weizen like their flagship brew. Their standard is called a hefe-weizen but I don’t think it uses a standard weizen yeast... I think they pitch an American ale yeast... which means good-bye banana/clove esters one comes to expect from a Bavarian hefe-weizen.

We also hit Big E Ales, Diamond Knot, and Boundry Bay for some decent beers. The
best of show, however, goes to Dechutes and their
Hop Henge Imperial IPA. We went to them three times! They also had their
Green Lakes Organic Ale, which is a nice amber ale.
