Normally we only talk about beer on this site. For a moment I want to have a harangue about spam. This is related to the site because it is happening on Thank Heaven for Beer. When I get a little bit of spam on my e-mail, it doesn’t bother me that much. I erase it. My e-mail doesn’t have too much purpose beyond being able to contact friends (or the reverse). But when any of us is trying to put a site together with an overarching message and useful content, spam is more annoying than even our personal e-mail addresses. So I’m going to write something here that deals with the subject, seeing as how I have to erase so much of it.
What is worse: Spam the meat or spam the e-mail? First let’s show a couple of similarities. Both Spam and the spammer are slimy things that sit in small cans (let’s call them cubicles). Both create a certain suspicion when spotted, a suspicion that says, “Do I really want anything to do with this?” Both would be better if they were fried. No one is ever really happy to see either of them.
Here are some differences: Spam, the meat, can be choked down with a beer. Many of us wouldn’t mind choking the spammers. A filter always catches the meat product. Spam has some actual use, while spammers seem to have none. Spam is made of all sorts of byproducts, while the spammer is the byproduct of casino games, Viagra, insurance quotes and health products “needs.”
For those of you are reading this site for the content, thank you a million times. We really appreciate the fact that you stop by. If you spot some spam that we miss, please let us know. For those of you who are parasites stopping by to spam this site, find some real purpose and use in life.
I’m too worked up about all of this…thank heaven for beer! By the way, Spam got a bit of a bum wrap in this post. Seriously, though, stop spamming our site unless you sending us free cans of the meat product.

Your timing is creepy. I’ve been pondering writing a short note on my blog about spam for several weeks now. I get 40+ spam comments a day; (I’ve gotten 4 in the last half hour that I’ve been sitting at my computer). thankfully they don’t just show up on my site, since I have to approve first-time-commenters, but deleting each one is a PAIN! gah.

Yeah…I have deliberated installing a spam catch plug-in…unfortunately they all have a proven track record of blocking well intentioned commentators!
